Verizon HP Pre 2 Now Available for Preorder
As anticipated, the drastically-delayed Pre 2 is now available for pre-order from HP on Verizon Wireless. The pre-order page on palm.com is now live. The units will begin shipping on February 17th and will also presumably be available in-store on or around that date as well.
The usual $99 pricing on a 2-year contract is in full effect, with the Pre 2's full retail price coming in a bit lower than most other smartphones at $439.99. No word as of yet on 1-year pricing. Either way, free FedEx shipping is offered when purchased from HP.
With no official word yet from HP on any domestic carrier partners for the just-announced Pre 3, this remains the only way to get a subsidized, carrier-supported WebOS 2.0 (and beyond) device right now in the United States. Of course, the unlocked GSM Pre 2 has been available direct from HP since November.
Even though Verizon has not yet updated their site to reflect the Pre 2 availability, the main question regarding the Pre 2 has been whether or not the free wireless hotspot feature found on the older WebOS devices will remain on the Pre 2. Thankfully, as rumored, it's still intact, according to the pre-order confirmation page at HP Wireless Central. This feature is said to be for a "limited time only":
"With the Verizon Wireless 3G Mobile Hotspot, you may share your 3G connection with up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices, including notebooks, netbooks, MP3 players, cameras, PDAs, portable gaming systems and more. For a limited time only, get 5GB per month free - A $40.00 per month value!"

Can't believe that Nokia would hitch up to Microsoft with this kind of history.
