Dockers Announces the 'Mobile Pant'

While plenty of companies are making devices meant to be carried around everywhere, not enough of them are working on the problem of how to lug around all this gear. Well, Dockers is doing their part. Their new Mobile Pant contains seven hidden pockets for handhelds, mobile phones, pagers, and more. They will cost $52 and will be available next month in khaki, black, or olive.

According to a Dockers spokesperson, "With the Dockers Mobile Pant, men can maintain their stylish business casual look with elements of our traditional khaki, while enjoying the modern versatility of the hidden storage pockets."

"The Dockers Mobile Pant offers today's professional man the most convenient way of carrying his multiple mobile devices, as well as other personal items, such as keys and airline tickets.

Too cool!

Haha, so simple yet some amazingly cool at the same time. :)

I'm in for at least three pairs. What a nice change from my usual Cargo Pants.

Palm Pants?

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 4:28:06 PM #
is that a palm in your pocket or you just glad to see me?

parachute

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 4:48:53 PM #
I'll just turn my parachute pants inside out. :)

You want me to put WHAT in my pants?!

Spell @ 7/17/2001 5:08:35 PM #
Well, I have to say that this is one of the first handheld device spinoff that's made me glad to be in the under-represented female PDA-using population. What a terrible idea! All your delicate electronics banging around against your thighs, causing crazy lumps and just begging to be bumped into table legs! Sure the "what's in your pants" and "it's all in your pants" tag lines are cute, but how cute will it be when the "Palm Graveyard" starts filling up with pants-related casualties. (Yeah, I know, men have been carrying delicate equipment around in their pants for centuries, but somehow, it seems foolish to tempt fate by increasing the amount of easily breakables down there.)

Then again, it's a great idea. I'm going to have a good laugh as I sit back, PDA and other electronics safely stowed in bump-proof cases, and watch.

ditto. i just love sitting back and watching as the men all go and look like fools . . .

Palm & cell in bump proof cases, how big is your purse?

I for one, will check these out ( yes I am a man ). I love cargo pants, problem is I can't wear them at work, this should provide a nice option.
You ladies have no idea how nice it can be to move your wallet out of the back pocket and into a pant leg pocket. My III fits great in my cargo's and it's easy to take with me and safe. I don't have to worry about it falling out of a shirt pocket, sitting on it in a back pocket or being extremely uncomfortable in a front pocket. Plus the added bonus of not wearing a "fanny pack" speaking of looking like a fool.

Oh yea, my leg is softer than a lot of the stuff that ends up in a purse. No fat jokes please ( 5:10 170# ).

Trevethan @ 7/18/2001 3:58:13 AM #
I guess I must be a geek because I really want a pair of these.... I wonder how they look when you are actually wearing them though? With a Prism in my pocket I get some very curious looks... specially at the YMCA for some reason....:-)

It certainly beat the other alternative... the batman utility belt solution.... I feel like an idiot with just my Nokia 8210 on my hip... Add the visor, and some pouches for springboards and I'll either end up looking like a cop or I am off to invade Iraq...

Anyway please get them over here in the UK.. and at a reasonable price..They'll no doubt charge 80 or 90 bucks over... gotta love rip-off Britain.....

Regards

YyThaiGuy @ 7/21/2001 11:06:23 AM #
When pockets were first sewed onto pants, people said that it would never catch on because it looked bulky and unseemly, but look at pants now?? Pockets are essential. Most people (Women too!) wouldn't buy a pair without them. This is a natural evolution as our society changes. I beleive in 5 to 10 years EVERYONE will be carrying a handheld device of some kind... Call me geeky, but I'll be well prepared!

Dockers...Bah!

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 5:43:28 PM #
Didn't they make a jacket a while back that had space for an mp3 player, cell phone, and PDA? Was that them, because it fits the stupid idea.

RE: Naysayers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 6:01:48 PM #
I think its funny the way that no matter what new thing gets released, someone always posts a comment on how dumb they think it is. Some people are just born opposed to everything. I'll bet their ancestors were the ones predicting that the airplane would never catch on and asking why anyone would want to walk on the Moon anyway. I try to avoid these people in real life because they are real wet blankets.

RE: Dockers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 7:05:58 PM #
I don't think I'm a naysayer, but why exactly did we walk on the moon? It was cool and all, but seriously, what did we gain by it. So far a flag on the moon, oh and some rocks.

Of course now someone will reply to this saying that it was all a fake.

Oh well, I'll probably buy the pants. Either that or sew some extra pockets in mine. By the way, how do you get to that bottom pocket. I'm hoping you have to reach in the fly to get to that pocket, just for the new entertainment factor of public displays of people reaching into their crotch to retrieve their PDA's.

Oh and I always knew airplanes were gonna catch on.

we went to the moon because russia wanted to

RE: Dockers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 12:14:07 AM #
We went to the moon so that we could spit in the Soviet's faces.

RE: Dockers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 2:45:17 AM #
Yeah yeah, I've heard the whole cold-war reasoning. Missile bases on the moon, starwars. Maybe it was right at the time, but today I say we get rid of those greedy NASA goverment mooches, and spend the tax dollars on something more worthwhile, like free Palm's for everyone thats on welfare, so they can use bankbook to count how many foodstamps they have to sell to buy some crack. Thats what I use it for anyways. Well the buying crack part at least.

RE: Dockers...Bah!
CKMOOSE @ 7/18/2001 5:58:30 AM #
"What's the point in going to the moon?"
The technology contained in your precious Palm (and mine) started with the space program.
People are so short sighted these days.

RE: Dockers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 8:43:47 AM #
So was the washing machine - the computer onboard the rocket on her first way to the moon had less ROM/RAM than an average washing machine today - thats what i call economic programming.

Look at PPC or evnan palm nowadays - (Palm cannot even cope with his on SD /MMC slot so far)

RE: Dockers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 9:27:15 AM #
OK, since we are going off on a tangent here...

the Palm has more computing power than the Apollo rockets, but the Apollo had cooler peripherals.

RE: Dockers...Bah!
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 10:56:38 AM #
Given what has happened since, maybe we did go to the moon just to beat the USSR. When I watched that first landing, I assumed we would have at the minimum, a functioning Lunar Base, and perhaps a toehold on Mars.
As for ditching our current space program, it should receive more funding, not less. The creator put us here to appreciate and explore the wonders of the magnificent universe he/she created. The true destiny of humanity is out there.

Moonbase...
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 12:24:24 PM #
Actually the plan for the Apollo program was that they were indeed scouting locations for the permanent moonbase that would follow.

There are references to this in Apollo 13, and more information in the book (now called Apollo 13, previously called Lost Moon) by Jim Lovell.

Then the Seventies happened.

SIGH.

Well if you think that's why we are here then why don't you pay for it with your own money, why should I be forced to give part of the money I make working and give it to the space program. As wonderful as it might be I don't think anyone should be forced to pay for the space program. I pay taxes for road work and the cops, not to fund some idiots dream of exploration.

I wonder

Tino @ 7/17/2001 5:58:13 PM #
if it will clash with my pocket protector.
RE: I wonder
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 5:59:48 PM #
You've missed the whole point. These don't have big external pockets that scream "I'm a geek". They have hidden pockets so people can't tell how much stuff you are carting around. They let geeks look like marketing types.

RE: I wonder
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 7:22:51 PM #
This is good for us drug dealers!!

i love how someone always finds a unique use for these products . . .

Nice. They show an IPAQ with the Pant on their site.

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 6:26:03 PM #
Maybe Lee Jeans will come out with the Jordan-Palm-Pant???

RE: Nice. They show an IPAQ with the Pant on their site.
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 8:09:17 PM #
I think they used the iPaq because it proves just how big the pockets really are

RE: Nice. They show an IPAQ with the Pant on their site.
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 11:05:10 PM #
Don't forget, MJ sells Hanes underwear. Maybe we'll see pockets in our boxers. Should give new meaning to the phrase "form factor".

RE: Nice. They show an IPAQ with the Pant on their site.
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 12:14:33 AM #
If they are using an iPaq then they will just get khaki dust in their screen.

Weight Problems

I.M. Anonymous @ 7/17/2001 10:35:05 PM #
I for one worry about the waist of the pants. If I carry 5 pounds of electronics, and wear the pants loose like I like to, I have a feeling they'd fall off. That would be stupid.

RE: Weight Problems
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 12:57:54 AM #
oh come on. live a little! what good board meeting is complete without someone wearing their pants at the knees?

RE: Weight Problems
I.M. Anonymous @ 7/18/2001 3:54:26 PM #
>what good board meeting is complete
>without someone wearing their pants at the knees?

Seems like they always end up that way anyhow...
