Sony N770C to be Displayed in Germany
According to heise on-line, Sony is going to demonstrate a German version of its N series handheld at the IFA 2001 trade show, which starts tomorrow. The PEG-N770C has the same 320 by 320 color screen as the rest of the N series and can play both MP3 and ATRAC3 encoded digital music.
According to the site, it runs Palm OS 4.1 and includes PictureGear Pocket and gMovie.
Sony hasn't yet said when this device will be available or what it will cost.
In addition, they also mention that a digital camera module for the N770C will be on display. Assumably, this will work with any N series handheld.
The page is in German. Here's how Babelfish translates it:

multicolored and sound: Sonys of new PDA Clié PEG-N770c
Electronics giant Sony presents the MP3-faehigen Handheld Clié PEG-N770C with color display in hall 18, status 1. In the USA Sony has already since longer color PDAs on Palm OS base in the program; now the company makes also in Germany Ernst. The extras for the European market developed Handheld has a reflektives TFT color display (320 x of 320 pixels), which represents over 65.000 colours. It plays both MP3 and ATRAC3-Audiodateien and comes along already with the fire-new Palm OS in the version 4.1. As usual is the case for Sony PDAs, also that may not naturally be missing to MEMORY stick plumb bob and the Jog dial Raedchen.
Optionally even a camera module for the minicomputer is to be available. So that the user can enjoy the colour joy also so correctly, Sony the Handheld wants still the small picture handling program PictureGear, which video Player gMovie and the Web software AvantGo in the sales version settle. When decorations the device will have to be had in Germany and at which price, wanted Sony to date yet does not admit to give.

RE: Memory stick
Plumb bob
The problem was that it attempted to translate something already in english into english.
Points from the article that were not clearly translated include:
It has a "memory stick slot" and "jog dial"
No announcement has been made as to availability or price in Germany.
It will include photoediting software.
With all the rumors and this press release...
Isn't this the best solution?
os 4.1
thanks

SONY and marketing.
i mean, lets look at the N700C - japanese. N710C - english, maybe the N770C is the efigs version (english, french, italian, german and spanish) targetting the european market.
maybe 4.1 is their way of building the efigs rom image. Palm, Inc have different rom images to, reflecting language - however, they just didn't change the name of the unit.

RE: SONY and marketing.
OS Upgrade
Even with OS 3.5.2 I managed to buy the ONLY unit in Singapore with a corrupted OS. If Sony are serious about the handheld market they better not ignore everyone that already has a 710c.
It's bad enough that the 610 series has a better screen resolution than the supposed flagship model the 710c...
Sony, I'm waiting...
RE: OS Upgrade
An attempt at a better translation
An optional camera model for the PDA will be available. So the user can truly enjoy the color capable PDA, Sony will include a small image editing program called PictureGear, a video player gMovie, and the web software AvantGo in the retail version. Sony has not yet released at what price and when the device will be available in Germany.
