Sony Wireless Web Service Now Available
MYLO, Sony's wireless Web service, is available for some Clié owners. However, at this time the only available modem fits the PEG-S320 and the first-generation PEG-S300 and not the N series.
MYLO, which stands for MY Life Online, alows Web surfing, e-mail access, and instant messenging. It costs $40 a month for unlimited access with a $25 activation fee.
The service is being provided by GoAmerica. Their new wireless modem adapter has a PC Card slot that accepts a wireless modem card. This card works interchangeably with Sony handhelds and notebooks that have an open PC Card slot. The card, which is a Sierra Wireless AirPath SC 300, operates on Cellular Digital Packet Data (CDPD) networks. Coverage is limited.
The MYLO wireless service itself divides information into four lifestyle categories:
Today – Allows users to choose between information like news, weather, sports, stock quotes and traffic updates.
Work – Access communication, news, travel and financial information.
Play – Offers personal e-mail and information on dining, travel, shopping, TV, music, movies, sports and games.
Search – By using popular search engines or inputting their favorite URL, users can access HTML and WML-based Web pages.
It also features instant messaging, support for POP3 e-mail accounts and wireless Internet access to HTML and WML-based Web sites.
Later, there will be an option to use the same service with a laptop.

$40/Month is WAY TOO MUCH! Should be $19.95/Unlimited.

Look at the price of internet access - as its usage became more common, and the infrastructure became deployed further afield the prices tumbled. Ditto wireless ... we are still in the "early adopter" stages, and the wireless service providers are having us "share" the costs. It will remain to be seen if the costs drop as the rate of adoption increases.

STUPID DESIGN
The new Novatel modem for the Palm 500/505 will be the state of the art for these integrated solutions. The Sony solution is a loser.
RE: STUPID DESIGN
Hopefully nobody will get close enough to see how ugly it is because they stand a good chance of getting their eye poked out by that HUGE antenna ;)
I already feel the new design of the Clie is too much like a fashion statement to carry around, but there is no damn way I would ever go out in public with this Hawaii 5.0 walkie talkie gizmo ;)
Although the "computer guy" on Saturday Night Live may adapt well to this contraption.
RE: STUPID DESIGN
as for the fashion statement, I don't think that's such a bad thing. Lots of peeps have complained about how ugly Palms can be, case in point, the old III line. Sony has to do something to differentiate itself. People have been raving about the 320 I just bought talking about how much they like the sleek design and cost to boot. Either way, end users can't lose if there is more competition for Palm.
Hmm.

look I'm smart I can play with numbers,
money doesn't matter, if it's affordable to you buy it, if it's not don't, we don't care.
Heck cheapy, buy a visor solo from handspring and get a free visor phone with service activation. that's a much better price, and in addition to your internet/email, you have a phricken phone
see people, it's all about the features, and the quality there in, value is secondary, and the numbers are only in your head.
