Sony T615C Becoming Available

Numerous readers have written in that Sony has shipped the T615C's they ordered last week from SonyStyle and that they should arrive Monday.

This model is beginning to appear on numerous webstores. Office Express has the best price so far, with both silver and blue models going for $358. It lists them as backordered, though. Best Buy has it only in Silver for $400 and says it is in stock. PC Mall has both colors for $400, too, though it isn't yet available.

Large webstores aren't the only ones listing the T615C. eCost has only the Silver one for $400 but they don't appear to have any in stock yet. AheadTech.com has both for a very slight discount but they list it as backordered. Select Shopping will have the silver model for $400 on Feb. 1.

According to a reader report, the T615CG2 will be available for preorder in Australia on January 21. This will be the first Clié available in Australia.

Relatively on time? They *beat* their time. When they announced the T-615 in the US, they said that they would be "available on or before January 22."

Now, let's see what they can do with the blue ones. . .

Yes, I do not know if it is available in US yet but this is made in Taiwan (in Japanese):

Best Buy on Rt.22 in Union, NJ has four T615s in stock for $399.99 in silver color only. Info. good as of 8:00 pm 1-21-02.

I only trust what you have to say. I have some serious concern about the silver railing and battery life. Please give us one.

I saw the 415 a little while ago and the two pieces of the casing at the lower left corner of the unit seemed to be coming apart at the seam. Now, this was a DISPLAY unit at CompUSA but I was still disturbed that it would come apart like this - especially this soon after release. Ed - I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the rigidity and durability (bonding) of the sandwich-like casing of the 615. Thanks.

I ordered a T615C this morning over their website and got a correct order confirmation. 5 hours later I received the following email:

Dear OfficeExpress Shopper,

Your order status has been changed to: Canceled

Seems like we are lagging behind on the Sony products for pricing and availability. The Sony Canada website is not even hinting of a new model showing up other than some price drops on the T415 and 760 models. Heck the 760 just hit the store shelves in December. The staff in the Sony Stores are also left out of the loop. I envy your "free enterprise" system that allows for more competitive pricing policies as well. I believe there are only two Retail outlets carrying the Sony CLIE products so there is not much incentive to cut prices. Looking forward to catching up.
