PalmSource to Join Open Mobile Alliance
PalmSource announced that it has joined Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a mobile industry body dedicated to removing barriers to global user adoption and ensuring seamless mobile application interoperability. The OMA was formed in June 2002 by approximately 200 companies representing the world's leading mobile operators, device and network suppliers, information technology companies and content providers.
"The efforts of the Open Mobile Alliance are in line with PalmSource's strategy to enable interoperability between handhelds, wireless data devices and smartphones through open standards," said Albert Chu, vice president of business development for PalmSource. "Our vision is to leverage PalmSource's expertise in compelling user experience for mobile devices deploying OMA's specifications, to give users of Palm Powered devices full interoperability across mobile information products."
As a member of the alliance, PalmSource will further the efforts it began as a founding member of the SyncML Initiative, an open standards group that drives data mobility. As announced in June 2002, SyncML consolidated its activities into the Open Mobile Alliance.
