Imaging and Art with TealPaint 6
TealPoint Software has announced the release of TealPaint version 6.00. A completely new program written from the ground up, TealPaint 6 sets a new standard in handheld drawing and painting applications.
TealPaint 6 is chock full of features and functionality never before seen on a Palm OS handheld. Highlights include support for high resolution and landscape screens, nearly unlimited image sizes, independent image layers, multiple levels of undo and redo, multiple zoom-in and zoom-out levels, and use of all tools when in magnify modes.
Offering other capabilities previously available only on a desktop, features include 1,2,4,8, and 16-bit color support, text, 20 drawing tools, 16 patterns, 24 brushes, animation, slideshow mode, programmable buttons, image compression, grid snap, image templates, screen-grabbing, and more. Also included is a new desktop image import, export, and printing utility.
TealPaint 6 retails for $19.95 and is currently availible. There are hundred plus TealPaint paintings featured on the TealPoint online art gallery.
"TealPaint Version 6 really packs desktop graphics power into a handheld" said Vince Lee, President of TealPoint Software. "The new layers, zoom levels, special effects, high-resolution and 16-bit color support all come together to make TealPaint the undisputed heavyweight champion of PalmOS paint and sketch apps."

The lack of the above mentioned features have nothing to do with limitations of OS 5. Yes - OS 5 has numerous limitations - but none should effect the ability to have these features in this application. ARM programming is difficult with the ARMlet limitations (which i assume they utilize here) - but that should not be a show-stopper to adding features such as these.

None of this has anything to do with whether the application supports 24-bit images. How an application internally manages image data can be totally independent of the operating system's imaging support; an application can store and manipulate images using 24 bits per pixel and can render them to the screen at 16 bpp as necessary.

PalmOS is seriously deficient in every major area: windowing (no layout management), graphics (no antialiasing), fonts (no antialiasing, no scaling), kernel (no multitasking), storage (no consistent file system), user interface (no consistent dialog boxes), etc.
The only thing that makes PalmOS devices successful is that people have written lots of great software for it. But that's despite the OS, not because of it.

Oh well.
It may cost you...
Well coded but...
They should pay someone else to do them IMO.

Those at TealPoint have created the most impressive montage of Palm OS software in the business hands down. They take into consideration that Palm users are not technically savvy. They take out the "neat hacks" that may impress the Palm snobs but would just make the general Palm OS consumer confused.
It is a common trap to over feature Palm OS applications by some developers. TealPoint has consistently avoided trying to impress the "overvocal and underfunded" that are some members of
user groups and delivered very well done software to the masses.
Per your example, a table in fact is much more easier to use than say doing some general math to compute a tip. Who in the hell would pull out a calcuator to calculate a tip down to the cent?? If you have done that, I'm sure no second date came about ... if you are ever able to get a date at all.
To comment on what this thread started about, TealPaint 6 is very, very well done of an app. While it is hindered by the small screen Palm devices have now, it is perfectly positioned to take advantage of the "Palm OS Tablets" that are in the works.
And Vince, I'll buy you a beer at PalmSource next month for writing such a slick piece of code!

RE: Well coded but...
Do you really think your date will recognize the difference between pulling out a calculator to calculate a tip, or pulling out a PDA to figure out the tip you should leave? And if pulling out a PDA is ok, the why not use the PDA's calculator?

They do not produce elegant, or orginial products. IMHO.
TealPoint Software has always made superior Palm apps.

You obviously are a fool.
TealAuto
TealDoc
TealLock
TealMaster
TealPaint
TealPhone
TealPrint
TealScript
All excellent programs from TealPoint.
It's just too big.
RE: Well coded but...
Anyway, you can spew vitriol, wildly gesticulate (I can just see you now) and rationalize till the cows come home but it doesn't make TealPoint's poorly written/designed software any better.
Fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives available, so we can all support whichever developers we please. I have to wonder though why you feel so threatened if someone has an opinion that differs from yours. But actually, I don't really care.
RE: Well coded but...
Simple, Palms are cooler than calculators and have a hell of a lot more social tool use since it has less buttons. (Read J.R. Whall if you have yet.)
And Fitzsimmons, the attempt at introverting me was cute but didn't work. You are not worth my time anymore.

RE: SproutPaint vs. TealPaint
Please fix up the website; I mean it in the nicest possible way, but the webpage was nasty .. unnecessary gaudy animations, big fat buttons that obscure the real content, etc :) Keep it nice and simple and show us the goods liek the screenshots and the feature listing and all that. I ran away before poking around the site, since it was nasty :)
But definately keep at it; good show.

The website is not in english, but there are enough links in english to find the download for the software and to find the english translated instructions page.

I think I'll download a TealPaint 6 demo and compare...
