HotSync Coming to Classic

Classic Hotsync webos MotionApps has published a new blog post detailing an upcoming new feature for their Palm OS Classic emulator for webOS. Classic allows Palm Pre users to run many Palm OS titles. The company says they will soon add support for HotSyncing within the emulator. The ability to HotSync would bring a number of adnvatages including easier data migration, a simplified method for installing classic apps, the ability to utilize custom conduits and a means for backing up data.

The company says they currently have HotSync operations working over Bluetooth or WiFi connections on their development builds. They do not have an ETA for release at this time, but they do state it will be free update for all registered users.

This will at least (and at last!) enable memos to sync!

Not just the PIM apps but the important bit "Ability to use custom conduits and desktop applications that are syncing their data between desktop and phone through HotSync"

SplashID, Daynotez, etc.

Good news. Hope it works out....

Got me thinking

How splendid... now the Classic emulator can do, what the original environment it runs on still can't - great job, Palm.

I still hope by the time the GSM version is released in Europe, a local sync version that does complete Outlook synchronizatiion will be released. But then again, I might be dreaming there... after all, there never really was a PalmOS 6 either.

Yes, a 6 and a 6.1 that never were. :-)

Though the same thing myself. Honestly the Pre platform has gone from an identity crisis to multiple personalities. There is no united marketing front here. Customer confusing will only hurt sales. Get focused guy and give the engineers that made this work some just desserts!

I noticed that too. the fact is that classic is dead. Palm would be better off admitting that and moving on.

The thing is, that they cant, because classic is their only argument against's the Iphone app gap.

Which desktop version?

philpalm @ 7/15/2009 10:19:28 PM # Q
Most likely they will use the palm desktop version 4.14.

Anyone taking bets which one they will use?Maybe they will beseech Access to have their own version?

I've been whining for weeks about the lack of a desktop sync for the new Pre. And, I want to keep my Memos. I've been holding off buying a new phone hoping a solution would present itself. With Classic I can still use my favorite apps until developers come up with versions for the new OS, AND keep my data where it belongs - on my computer. Still waiting for the GSM version, though. Patience . . .

Question

Ironhide @ 7/16/2009 12:49:34 PM # Q
May I ask why Palm went to all the trouble? Why not just hack the device ID so that the Pre could show up in Activesync and sync that way?

I mean why develop your own solution when you can steal someone else's.
