Palm and Sprint Hosting Invite Only Pre Webinar
Sprint and Palm have sent out invitations to select members of the media (PalmInfocenter included) for a "first in a series of interactive Webcasts featuring Palm Pre." The invite only webinar is described as:
Join Fared Adib, Vice President, Device Operations & Logistics for Sprint, and Matt Crowley, Product Line Manager at Palm, as they provide a demo of Palm Pre on the Sprint 3G Network. They will walk you through why the partnership between Sprint and Palm offers an extremely compelling new device - Pre - and will change the way customers view and use their wireless device.
Additionally, they will highlight three key differentiators, available exclusively from Sprint, that make Pre standout in the smartphone device category, and help bring your life, personal and professional, together, effortlessly.
The event is scheduled for next Thursday, March 12th at 2pm Eastern (11am Pacific). A 20 minute presentation will be followed by a 20 minute Q&A.
The invitations are being sent out by Sprint Media Relations department. Other than the description text above, there is no word on what, if anything new, will be shown or announced. PalmInfocenter will attend and will of course report on any developments.

RE: PIC
i did a quick scan and missed it. the zombie font ain't the easiest to read. and the Dow at 6,618 has me a little rattled today. although i'm sure the socialist writers out there are thrilled.

"Greed is good" - huh?
Topic of discussion?
How about this from the latest SEC filing's "this could go wrong"-type words:
== "...If our Palm webOS service offerings does not scale as
== anticipated, or we are unable to grow data center
== capacity as needed, our business will be harmed.
==
== Despite frequent testing of the scalability of our Palm
== webOS service offerings in a test environment, the
== ability of our Palm webOS service offerings to scale to
== support a substantial increase in the number of users in
== an actual commercial environment is unproven. If our Palm
== webOS service offerings do not efficiently and
== effectively scale to support and manage a substantial
== increase in the number of users while maintaining a high
== level of performance, our business will be seriously
== harmed. In addition if we are unable to secure data
== center space with appropriate power, cooling and
== bandwidth capacity, we may not be able to efficiently and
== effectively scale our business to manage the addition of
== any new wireless carrier customers, increases in
== subscriber growth or increases in data traffic.
==
== The Palm webOS service offerings represents a new service
== to consumers that we have not provided before. We cannot
== assure you that we will be able to implement these new
== services and products successfully, in a timely manner,
== or at all. If we are unable to deliver this new service
== or product effectively, or in a way that satisfies our
== customers and end users, our business and results of
== operation may suffer. Even if we are able to deliver this
== new service or product effectively, its delivery may
== require more resources, both financial and otherwise,
== than originally anticipated, which could restrict our
== ability to develop new products and services and/or grow
== or maintain our business..."
Suprised no discussion HERE on this!
But this place is asleep still.
RE: Topic of discussion?
There will be a "free" introductory period for the first 6-9 months of the Pre's life to reel in the early adopters while the bugs are worked out in the mypre.net (or whatever) cloud portal service. Then the additional charges will commence!
And/or, as I also predicted earlier, the Spring "Everything" plan will start to have quite a few strings attached but a new "Really Everything Everything" plan (for, say, $20-$30ish more per month) will debut alongside the Pre and will cover all your cloud/sync fees etc and possibly even get the user's bandwatch cap raised.
On a related note, I purchases and downloaded an 11gb game over Steam (the ONLY digital distribution model that actually works, IMO) the other day. That thing took HOURS to pull down even over a 6.0 DSL connection. I pity any Pre apologist who attempts to sync an expansion slot-less Pre chock-full of 8gb of "stuff" over the cloud (both in time and in bandwitch overage fees).

RE: There are live blogs ongoing NOW
They started off stating there would be no new "release timing or pricing info."

RE: There are live blogs ongoing NOW
I wouldn't count on anything before the end of May, no matter what the apologists are saying elsewhere. There's simply too much at stake for Palm to release anything less than a near-perfect device, especially after the bungled launches of the Pro, 800w, 700p, 700w, LifeDrive, 650, T5, T3, T|T, m505 etc.
Pretty much the only solid bit of new news offered today was that flash will be supported "near the end of '09".
IMHO, Palm missing the boat with The Pre arriving with no flash support or YouTube client at launch in 2009 is right up there with them failing to ship an mp3 player in the box with the T|T in 2002.

RE: There are live blogs ongoing NOW
So, yeah, I'd say end of May absolute earliest but end of June most likely. And of course I am still sticking to my guns that the initial availability will be very minimal and will be like trying to find a Wii in Christmas '06 or a PS2 in Christmas '00 or a Cabbage Patch Kid doll in '84.

RE: There are live blogs ongoing NOW
Nah, I've never said "never" as far as I can remember w.r.t. the Pre (real) arrival date.
Instead, as of this moment I say no later than June 30th. I do not expect that to get revised to an earlier date, for SURE expect that to get revised to a later date.
But June 30th latest for right now.

Aside - I =truly= believe this guy:
knew exactly what he was talking about when he posted his note.
From the lack of what I'm seeing with the Pre (the ONLY application being shipped with it is Synergy!?), I'd say it remains a Pre-beta device.
