KeyGEx Enhanced Keyguard for Palm OS Released

KeyGEx - Palm OSRyhor Burakou, the developer behind the popular TouchLauncher application, has released another new iPhone inspired Palm OS utility. KeyGEx is a Treo/Centro keyguard replacement that mimics the slide to unlock gesture. It also allows you to greatly customize your lockscreen with signal info, battery, date and time displays and background wallpapers. If you're not a fan of finger sliding action you can also use the standard d-pad to unlock the device as well.

KeyGEx v1.6 for Palm OS is available as freeware. It supports the Palm Centro, Treo 650, Treo 680, Treo 700p and Treo 755p.

This thing kinda hosed my Centro for a while. It worked fine a few times, but then it began behaving oddly - I'd press the hardware button to turn the device on and I'd see the KeyGEx screen for about a nanosecond and then the device would turn off. I eventually recovered by doing a soft reset, and then I deleted KeyGEx.

i keep my apps to a bare minimum for simplicity, space, stability, and cost reasons. anything that's absolutely not necessary doesn't get installed. eye candy apps have no functionality amd thus no spot on my device.

Actually, I find a big clock on the keyguard quite useful when I bleary eyed fumble for my Treo to determine what time my newborn has just awakened me. I use KeyGTime+ for this purpose.

Though I have not tried KeyGEx, previous similar apps have been way too slow for my liking. Just from the screen shot I'm guessing there's little hope that my Treo680 would give me the instant response I demand when I press the power button. But others may not be as picky as me.

This app looks good though.

Anyone else notice that nearly half of Gekko's apps are to PATCH OS SHORTCOMINGS?!

Now what if all those devs got pissed off at this lawyering that's happening and dropped them. Gekko, et al, would be SOL.

Like Palm would really build an OS that *didn't* need patching. *snort*

Another minor glitch is the latest "reading of the palm" is suggesting PLAM is going to introduce the new OS at the same time they introduce a new device in "first half 2009", thus 31-Dec-2008 might not hack it.

Slow down 'text select scroll' app/hack?

speaking of apps/hacks, is there an app/hack out there that will slow down the palm's "text select scroll"? currently, if you want to select a piece of text which exceeds the screen and scrolls down, the scroll moves incredibly fast and goes all the way to the bottom/top of the memo/emai/document etc. any way to slow this down? scrollbar5 doesn't fix this. it's the text that scrolls too fast - not really the bars themselves. suffering from jt lag - but does anyone know wtf i am talking about?
