BenQ P50 vs. palmOne Treo 650

Engadget and PalmInfocenter met up on the floor of CES at the Digital Experience show. Engadget's Ryan Block took a few comparison shots of the palmOne Treo 650 and the upcoming "Q3 2005" BenQ Windows mobile smartphone. Read on for some visuals...

BenQ P50 vs. Treo 650

Ryan Block reports, No US wireless carriers have committed to offering P50 here yet, but since it is a GSM phone it’d have to be either Cingular or T-Mobile. It may retail around $600 - $800, depending on carrier offerings.

The palmOne Treo 650 is available now from Sprint in the USA. More carriers worldwide are expected to announce GSM versions soon.

Getting Closer

The 650 is more svelte design-wise, but the evil minions of the dark side are coming closer. PalmOne needs to shave the antenna and get the Treo 800g into our hands soon.

am i the only one that actually likes the treo with an antenna, even if it doesnt need to be there. makes it look like a phone instead of ... well ... not a phone.

I really like the idea of a PDA phone, and the Treo 650 is particularly attractive (not as gadgety as some of the high-end cellphones with keyboards). But, I'd like the option of having one without a keyboard, using the stylus as the main interface.

The "getting closer" idea is both asymtotic and idiotic. WindozeMobil freezes at the first opportunity, the user interface is way too cluttered to be useable and $600 to $800 is above the Treo price point. WindozeMobil may get close but will not ever reach the bar set by Palm. PalmOne for all it's mistakes still scores with the Treo. As long as you have to license the bloody OS from Micro$oft, you cannot really compete with Palm unless you get the big corporate buyers to buy in bulk. Anything with WindozeMobil on it will always be an also ran. Nuff Said...

I've been a palm user about 6 years now, I started with a palm IIIx and now I have a Tungsten T. Yesterday I went shopping and found this http://www.mobile-review.com/pda/review/htc-magician-2-en.shtml. I thought treo 650 was one of the best phone pdas on the market, I was wonrg. What is even bader is that palmone just put out treo 600 in Europe.

Palm is gettin beatin by windows :(. I love the way palm system works but the hardware is not keeping up. Look at this QTEK, if it only had palm os. May be i could find software on the market to make it work more like a palm, i've heard there is a palm emulator for windows ce.

What do you guys think about this? Sad day for me :(

Are you blind? It does have a keyboard. If that were any more obvious it would bite you in the face.

keyboard, that is what is wonrg with the treo, it has a keyboard that steels space. I have notive that the americans love pdas and phones with keyboards. That isn't the case here in europe, we have both types of models, with and without keyboards. But there is lots of people that don't want keyboard and want a smaller phone or pda. The tungsten T,T2,T3 were a hit here. The treo 600 is having bad sales here and nokias phones are selling well with the symbios OS.

I have used a pda for 6 years and I write faster with the pen then with a phone keyboard. Have you ever tried typing with the treo keyboard, its a nightmare compared with write with the pen with a word software that shows you possible words.

I believe Edward Green was referring to LiveFaith's mockup of a Treo800 (i.e. http://www.churchoflivingfaith.com/images/treo800big.jpg)

treo800, thats what palm has to put out. Why is palm so lazy, there losing marquet just to win a few buck in short term, but in the long run there losing it all. Wake up palm.
