Now bring the US version. Competition is good.

Man, that's pretty attractive from a hardware standpoint. My question is "what on earth" does current and future software do with 240x320? The screen density looks about like a large PDA screen with 320x320, since it is smaller. But, how will apps handle it especially since it is unique among POS devices ... barring the HE330?

I like it too. It seems to be a good contrast to teh Treo and possibly the only device with the ability to actaulyl compete with the Treo line. It only lacks in the egronimic department in the sense of not having a keyboard, but other than that its nice.

I wonder on the resolution pick though. I know that HVGA would have been a pwoer drain, but wouldnt most programs still have to be rereleased for QVGA (though that is just a half step of HVGA which shouldnt be as hard as going up from QVGA to HVGA).

It could be a really good alternative to the Treo line as not everyone likes the keyboard features of the line (Myself included). Provided we could get some drivers for an SDIO Wifi & (seperate) SDIO Bluetooth card, this could be a strong contender - UK launch needed soon, please.

When I first saw the pictures, I thought it looked big. But the photogallery shows that it's slightly smaller than a Treo 600. The sloping curves make it look bigger. This is a bad thing IMHO.

Yes the design could be corrected by rounding it a bit, get rid of the cover, and the antenna. It's only version 1, these small companies can easily modify their design; they need feedback!

This is a nice phone!
Good news!

Any idea why their support website is under construction?

PalmOne blunders on Treo 650 pricing

Handheld maker PalmOne upped the price of unlocked Treo 650 phones--to the dismay of customers--citing an error in pricing as the reason for the increase.

Nice to see you're staying on topic Mike... as always...

ps. There is a Mac version of the Qool - but it will only work on Mac Mini's that have been speed-bumped by soldering jumpers... too bad your hand isn't steady enough... :-)

Have you been bumping into Mike over at BYODKM.net or something?

gotta chime in regarding memory...

joad @ 2/4/2005 11:58:38 PM # Q
Yet another "smart" phone with only 32MB inside...? Maybe I'm still in the minority here, but for that kind of money and specifications, it would be great to have enough internal memory to do greater things with it.

Guess they can always offer up a $3.00 128MB SD card like PalmOne is getting away with... But wouldn't it be nice to design these properly in the FIRST place, instead of all the hacking and workarounds just to have enough free RAM to use these beasts?

A device that will live off its developers

Tamog @ 2/5/2005 5:54:16 AM # Q
Hi,
the Qool QDA700 definitely looks impressive, if iot were cheaper I already had one.
However, I see one big problem with the screen resolution-how will the stuff scale up? While the transition from LoRes to HiRes was easy as the OS just had to treat LowRes pixels as 2x2 Squares, scaling up with a factor of 1.4 won't be all that easy!
So, if developers support it, it will definitely be sucessful. But if they dont-.... . Qool could definitely help out by having the machine placed on PalmSources developer newsletter. When the Fossil Watch came out, I had a newsletter with detailld instructions in my mailbox two days later, and the SDK was available WITHOUT registration....
Just my 2 cents

Now...

vesther @ 2/6/2005 12:30:59 PM # Q
...all Qool needs to do is to strike a deal with Cingular and T-Mobile to bring this phone to the US. I also hope that Qool Labs also place a CDMA and iDEN version of this phone. The Qool QDA700 needs to be available in all protocols available in the US. The US Smartphone Market is in dire need of some culture.

Samsung SPH-i550 cancelled??? What a sick joke, Sprint!

If Sprint pulls the plug like everyone has been predicting, both Samsung and Sprint deserve to burn in Hell for eternity for subjecting us to yet more Vaporware Games. This would have been a solid alternative for those of us who have become wary of the Treo 600/650's dismal quality control.

Bold prediction: Samsung SPH-i550 will be released on March 14, 2005. Sprint may just be trying to prop up pa1mOne by maximizing Sprint Treo 650 sales before the GSM Treo 650 are available in significant #s.

If everyone knew the Samsung SPH-i550 was going to be available in a few weeks, Sprint's Treo 650 sales would probably nose dive.
