View Offline HTML Files in Blazer

Treo sd html TreoOfflineViewerTreoOfflineViewer is another nice new Palm OS utility from RNS:: Software that adds a few critically lacking features to the Blazer Palm web browser. Most importantly it adds a new 'open file' menu item to Blazer that allows you to open and view any saved or offline html files stored on a memory card. It also adds another missing feature, the ability to save and view the html source of a web page to a memo file.

TreoOfflineViewer v1.0 is available now with a free trial period for $4.95 USD. It is listed as compatible with the Treo 600, 650, 680, 700p and 755p.

You already can get Save Source to Memo

If you enable Palm OS easter eggs (draw a little circle in the bottom-right corner of the Preferences > Power panel), then Blazer shows the "Save Source to Memo" menu item.

Builtin to TX/E2/LD/T5 (maybe Treos too)

lol, this is builtin to Palm devices Save Source to Memo --> Easter Egg, Open File --> Install PalmOne Files, and the FileBrowserLib.

PalmOne Files is an application that was builtin to the LD/T5, but is mysteriously missing in the TX/E2. Once you install this app and it Lib's, you will be able to open local files in Blazer, launch documents from Favorites, browse to other directories than DCIM in Media, and a host of other things. It is one of the most useful apps on my device :-)

Treo 680?

I activated this a long time ago on my Treo 600. Anyone know how to do it on the 680?

It works on my TREO 680.
Under Prefs > Power> draw a circle above the "Tips" button.

I think it needs to be sort of egg shaped. Draw just above the 's' in 'Tips' an egg about the same height as half the width of the 'Tips button'. Don't touch the button itself. Took me a few goes to do it on my 680 but got it eventually.

You can already view offline html files...

To view offline html files in Blazer, just save them to your SD card. Use the "Files" application to browse and select the html file you want, then 'tap' on it. It will automatically open in Blazer.

You can also add a bookmark in Blazer to view offline html:

file://MySDCardName/Palm/MyHTMLFolder/MyHTMLFile.html

where:

--MySDCardName = the name assigned to your SD card

--Palm = the Palm folder on your SD card

--MyHTMLFolder = optional subfolder to hold your html files

--MyHTMLFile.html = the html file to view in Blazer

Note: It is important that "file:" be followed by two forward slashes as shown "file://" or the address won't work in Blazer.

non-Treo support

I wish this worked on my T|X. I've been looking for an offline HTML reader for quite a while, as I like to save articles from the Web and put them on the SD card. Right now I'm copying and pasting the text of the articles, saving them as plain text, and reading them in either CardTXT or Resco Explorer. Of course, that way I lose all the formatting. I'd prefer not to use one of those "other" solutions, like Plucker and iSilo. An HTML reader would be the perfect solution.

It's frustrating that I have a Web browser on my handheld and I can't use it to view local HTML files -- every time I start the browser, it asks me if I want to enable WiFi.

It should work. Maybe your html file has some embedded code looking for a hit counter, a banner, or an advertisement? This would automatically active the WiFi.

Resco Explorer can also have Blazer Open HTML files

If you use Resco Explorer, just browse to the Doc, and tap on it, and Blazer (or whatever web browser is "Defaulted" to open HTML docs) will open it.
