Land on the Moon with your Handheld
MobileBM has released Lunar Excursion Module Simulator 1.0 for the Palm OS. LEM Sim realistically simulates the critical phase of an Apollo moon mission which is the landing. The game features realistic physics, actual Apollo LEM instruments and NASA style sound effects. More...
LEM Sim is the most advanced lunar lander game available. During the descent to the moon, you may also have to cope with system malfunctions while you are busy flying the LEM! Some of those failures are recoverable. One example is a leak in the fuel tank. This will of course reduce the amount of fuel available for landing requiring you to land quickly. Other failures may be fatal. For instance, if the main descent engine shuts down for too long then NASA may as well name a new crater after you!
Key Features of the game:
- Realistic physics modeling of the descent engine and thrusters
- Actual Apollo LEM instruments rendering such as the X-pointer, altitude tape and artificial horizon
- Houston voice announcements of your altitude, rate of descent and fuel level
- Realistic sound effects during flight
- An on-board computer to help you fly the lunar module
- Lander sub-systems may fail at any time during your descent
- Three game levels : Rookie, Pilot and Commander
- Two missions to choose from
- Landing score takes into account landing accuracy, touchdown velocities, fuel remaining among other things
- Flight plan available during descent
- 20+ pages user's guide
- Will run from SD card to save memory on device
LEM Simulator v1.0 comes with a free trial and costs $14.95 to register. (20% off with code NEWYEAR) The game requires Palm OS 5.0 or higher and a 320x320 high resolution screen.

RE: MobileBM?
Cool sounding game, though.
On the note made be the first poster, it's kind of cool that a Palm OS app that was actually written and compiled in C *on* a Palm OS device using OnBoardC was used by NASA scientists to aid in their work with various Mars lander missions.

RE: MobileBM?
"Stay on the go, while you go"
or...
"Sh1t and get off the pot at the same time, with MobileBM"
Still, could be worse. The name could have been something more sinister like MobileVD. Oi!

RE: MobileBM?
yes Ok you win!!!!!!! I changed the name to "SimTogo" since I am mostly interested in develloping simulator games on Palm/Treo devices. by the way in the next version of LEM Simulator 1.1 (soon), you will be able to land on any planet of our solar system (Jupiter anyone?) and set up your own initial conditions like starting altitude, fuel level and so on.
Thanks and happy landing to all who downloaded the game!

Tougher than it looks
Addicted to Palm
"Stay on the go, while you go:".... I love that!!
I am was craking up when I hear your comments and had to respond! Yes I realize that MobileBM is very embarrasing name. I want it to call my "company" MobileFun but of course it was already taken. Since I had to put something in the "company" name I put that!!!! Time to rethink that. In any event, I am just new at develloping app for Palm and LEM Simulator is my first app. I hope you guys get a chance to download it and take it for a spin. Let me know what you think. yes I have a Treo 650 and a Tungsten C and I think both devices are probably more powerfull than all 1960's NASA computers combined. While develloping this game, I read a lot Apollo technical documents and I am still amazed on how we made it to the moon safely almost 40 years ago!
Anyway thanks for the tip about MobileBM and happy landing!
Mo.
