Treo 755p Burgundy Photo

Treo 755pIn a previous rumor article about the Treo 755p, an internal Spring upcoming releases document showed that the 755p would be available in burgundy and blue housing colors. Last week we saw a leak of the blue model, and this week Gizmodo appears to have a image of the 755p in its burgundy/maroon flavor.

An examination of the device's launcher shows a new IM icon, which would indicate either Sprint is bundling a new instant messaging app with the device or Palm has developed a new IM program itself.

Rumors of a 755p on Sprint have been brewing for some time now. Most previous info on this shows its as the first CDMA/EvDO Treo with an internal antenna with the same Treo 680/750 form-factor. It's expected to be announced sometime in June.

Not sure about the IM

retrospooty @ 4/3/2007 4:42:20 PM # Q
I do beleive the pic itself is real, and a burgandy device is coming, but the Palm OS menu screen is "pasted" on to the device. Why?

when was the last time you saw a Palm OS Treo with 6 bars? 4 bars indicates full coverage on Treo's.

My Treo 700p has six bars. Yeah, it was a surprise to me when I upgraded from a four bar Treo 650.

Really? Mine had 4. Maybe the diff is Sprint Vs Verizon. Verizon 650 and 700p has 4 bars.

OK, I recind my arguement. Maybe it is all real.

I can confirm that the Sprint 700p's do have a 6-bar signal indicator.

I call fake. I heard that the next Treo's signal indicator will go up to 11.

Boy how they milk their "upgrades." So, after 12 months, they've removed the antenna (possibly at the expense of signal strength or safety), slimmed it down (simply by giving it a lower-powered battery), and gave it another minor button "remodel", sacrificing usability in the process. And this is from a company that, for all intents and purposes, has only product (while they may not have discontinued all of their handhelds, their "current" models are anything but current). So has their R&D "department" consisted of one guy working part-time or was it just completely inept?

Neither. The 680's and 750's SAR score is significantly lower than that of the 650 and 700p/w/x. I can't speak for the 750, but the 680's reception and voice quality is also a big improvement on the 650.

Let's keep this in perspective: Palm have been making cellular radios for exactly three years, and they've made significant improvements with each new generation.

2004: Treo 650. Big SAR score, generally regarded as being of poor quality.
2005: Treo 700p/w/x. Suffers from the same problems as the 650, but with a slightly lower SAR score. However, they're 3G and deliver much faster data speeds.
2006: Treo 680/750. Bulky, ugly external antenna gone. SAR score much lower. Reception and voice quality greatly improved.

Based on this track record, the 755 should also offer big improvements over the last generation of CDMA Treos.

and gave it another minor button "remodel", sacrificing usability in the process

Well, that's a matter of opinion. While I initially wasn't a fan of the new button layout on the 680/700, I got used to it very quickly. I appreciate that the Home button can turn the device on now, unlike the 650, and I also appreciate the new recent apps menu that appears when you hold Home down.

Stretching reality a little bit there.

We'll conveniently completely forget about Handspring and where it went.

Didn't forget them. But since no one seems to know just how many of the Handspring people were retained after the acquisition, I left out the earlier Treos. The same principle can be applied to the earlier Treos, though: my 650 was a better phone than my 270.

Any 600-to-650 users care to chime in? Was it an improvement at all?

I don't know that it's fair to compare SAR scores of the GSM-based 680/750 to the CDMA 650/700. I guess we'll know for sure when we can pull up those numbers for this new device. And I think that most veteran Treo users would agree that the button layout change from the 650 to the 700 was a bad design decision, very quickly leading to the release of Tyler Faux's LudusP app to "fix" that somewhat.

My 650 is a million times better than my old 300. I couldn't justify getting a 750 but I might have to check out a 755 when they come out. Speaking of buttons, I wonder if the "P" button will stick like it does on my 650. :-)

Looks nice.

But I think the black/blue one looks nicer. That SO should have been an option for the 680...
