Palm Removes Verizon Treo 700 Updaters

Treo 700Late Friday, Palm very quietly pulled the latest v1.10 rom updates for the Verizon Treo 700p, 700w and 700wx smartphones. This move comes after a similar incident with the Sprint 700p update.

Palm's Verizon Update support page now states:

We have taken down the Verizon Wireless Treo 700p and 700w/wx updaters as a result of increasing customer reports of network connectivity issues following the updates. We are currently investigating the issue and will re-post as soon as they become available.

The reported error displays "Error 3000 - Data network is not available" when attempting to connect to the data network. This error does not affect your device or personal data in any other way. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks to David Clarke for the tip.

Cover your ears!!!

'cause the sound of all their 700p customers exploding with rage is gonna cause quite a BANG.

I think Palm have learned a valuable lesson with the 700p: don't share hardware architecture with WinMob. And perhaps test your updates a little more thoroughly...

Hi Guys,
don't you get it - Palm is trying to increase Treo 755p sales...

Thats all the reason behind borking around with the Treo 700p. Eventually, carriers will be so pissed that they give their customers 755p's to keep them happy(at a nominal fee, of course)...emptying Palm's warehouses!

I guess that we now also know why Palm can't use ALP - if they did, users could switch to a device from a different manufacturer and keep their software package...

At least that's my 2 cents...(elaborate version with funny story: http://tamspalm.tamoggemon.com/2007/08/12/treo-700p-whac-a-mole-verizon-update-offline-again/)

Best regards

"don't you get it - Palm is trying to increase Treo 755p sales..."

No, I dont think so. They have borked almost every ROM update for the past 4-5 years, even PDA's. They have absolutely no talent on thier ROM teams or quality teams... Or prehaps its just total bad management.

I don't think it's very fair to the Keystone Cops to compare them to Palm. At least everybody knew *they* were trying.

You. Have. Got. To. Be. Kidding. Me.

At some point I start to think "Palm is going to retract this" from the constant slipups.

Then I think "No they won't. At this point that would be so farsically ridiculous, even for PALM"

Then...
