Memos and Tasks

reidme @ 4/2/2009 6:49:27 PM # Q
I'd really like to see more of Memos and Tasks, but the screen was almost unreadable during that part of the video, and he really didn't demo much. How does Tasks work? Can you assign priorities? due dates? categories? sort? drag to change order? attach notes? subtasks? so many questions...

Gestures

Ecoteric @ 4/4/2009 6:35:10 AM # Q
Previous to this CTIA convention, at the CES and at the MWC conventions, swiping up once from within the application would take you straight to the launcher. At around 18 secs, the user swipes up "once to get to the card view" from within the contacts app. Doesn't this kind of make the center button useless, if u can just swipe up from anywhere to go to the card view? Why did they change the functionality of this gesture? I liked it much better before!

I noticed that too. Weird eh? Maybe people were too often accidentally activating the launcher, so they changed it.

Oh!

Are you suggesting the gesture functionality is not ready for prime time yet!?

You have a short position in the stock...right?

Giggle.

Why on Earth would I bother suggesting Pre isn't ready for prime time? We all know it isn't, else Palm would have released it already. Stuff like this would be getting tweaked all the time.

And no, I don't have any stock holdings. Unlike you, who must be weeping over this week's $9.42 closing. But cheer up, buckaroo! I'm sure pennystock status is just a dour, FUD-filled Internet post on a Palm fansite away. Why don't you make one now? You'll feel better, I'm sure.

Hey, I know! Why not explain to us again how that copy-and-paste security exploit works?

Chortle. Or something.

Freak, you are so predictable.

Everytime someone points out something you dislike you harp on some mis-statement they've made in the past.

tweaking basic functionality a month or so before release isn't a good sign.

Freak, weren't you the one who thought webapps were a sign of the iphone's unsuitability as a smartphone platform? You also didn't believe the iphone would ever have native apps.

By your own statements, aren't you indicating the Pre's unsuitability as a smartphone platform?

Fandango and Pandora are a force to be reckoned with!

Partially right on the first point. iPhone's original web-apps were essentially a great big "f*ck you" from Apple to both users and developers, given that they all ran within the browser, required a data connection, couldn't be installed locally and couldn't access PIM information.

Completely wrong on the second. Quote it. Link it. Go on. I dare you. (And while you're digging through the archives, update me on that Apple-Palm lawsuit, would ya?)

No need to dare me, but why must I suffer reading through any of your archived tripe then I need to? You stated repeatedly that you didn't think apple would ever produce a "proper sdk"...and considering the iphone now has copy/paste, mms, and a robust sdk palm can only dream about, you've been summarily discredited.

You're wrong about iphone webapps - btw, if they're such a big "f*ck you" to developers, then why have developers stayed on to produce 30,000 apps?

I guess that makes the Pre's webapps a smaller f*ck you to developers!

As for a possible lawsuit, let's see what actually happens...should be fun!

Wishing doesn't make it so, troll. Again, quote or link?

Freak, it' all the trash you spew in your various postings.

No, he stated since his '07 editorial that if the iPhone released an SDK and opened it up to third-party software, a lot of the Treo's advantages would be vaporized. He's remained relatively consistent, so you can at least give him that.

However, I still view Treo/Centro owners on the same level as Zune users. It's borderline barbaric.

However, he stated that apple's webapps were not the same as an sdk and that he did not believe apple would open up the iphone to developers. However, Ive read nothing but him fawning over Pre's webapps - and conveniently neglecting to highlight the downside to that approach.

freak *is* consistent in his beliefs - to a fault. However he is horribly biased in his shilling for POS devices.

Dude. This isn't even amusing anymore, it's just sad.

For your benefit:

Extras

The iPhone comes with a pretty good built-in software package that should satisfy the needs of most average users. But you shouldn't expect to get anymore out of it than what's already included; you'll be stuck with iPhone-compatible web applications as your only source of extra functionality. Given iPhone's gorgeous UI and powerful OS (a stripped down version of the Unix-based Mac OS X), it's an egregious kick in the face for smartphone fans. This thing is begging for third-party support, and the Mac developer community is an asset that Apple is foolish to waste.

It may be that Apple will eventually open up the iPhone – in fact, I'm almost certain of it – but for now it just screams wasted potential.

So what was that you were saying about me not believing they'd open up the iPhone...?

So now I am constantly being baited with offhand comments from my mates saying "Yeah, I'd f*ck Alison Carroll". FML
