Quickies: NS Basic/Palm 2.0, OLED, #palmchat

NS BASIC Corporation has released NS Basic/Palm 2.0. The new version of this development platform features an improved IDE as well as multiple code windows, quicker development, and a standard properties dialog. There are also numerous usability improvements. It is on sale now for $100.

The show Fresh Gear on TechTV over the weekend had a story about the new OLED display technology that will bring brighter, thinner, easier to read displays that use less power and have a 170 degree visible angle. As part of the story, they had a number of prototype Palms hooked up with a monochrome version of these screens. -Mike Wells

... there is another technology called LEP -- Light-Emitting Polymers. I heard a report on BBC World Service a few weeks ago.

I've been following OLED for some time. I believe it will change pretty much everything as far as display technology goes.

Check out one of the higher end pioneer car headunits -- with OEL displays.. Quite nice..

What the TV show failed to report was that OLED display are still waaaay too expen$ive and until the price drops, don't expect it in the near future.

Also, current OLED diplays have very short life spans and tend to burn out after only a few thousand hours of use.
