Quickies: Treo Delay, Filez, T615C

PDA Geek is reporting that the real reason Handspring is delaying the release of the Treo isn't because of a parts shortage as the company is reporting but instead it are having to wait for wireless carriers to approve the handhelds for their networks.

Filez 4.0 is out. This freeware file manager now has the ability to do memory card to memory card copies and view and edit files with a hex editor. It includes new, detailed HotSync and memory card information screens.

Best Buy is listing the T615C for $400 on its webstore. Its status is "On Order" and the page says it should ship within 5 to 7 business days.

These Treo delays are really disheartening. This extended marketing campaign is really running roughshod over their image. They missed the big christmas rush, and the economy is tanking, and they want to release this thing around valentines day or something when every dude in the world has to buy overpriced roses, chocolates and teddy bears that week.

The press push was premature. They created a demand, and now nobody is here to fill it.

Ain't going to work. As for Palm. They're coming with the even more lackluster i705.

Good luck to both Palm and Handspring. They need it. And I have no sympathies for either. Thank god for Sony.

Does anyone know if Filez is compatable with Visor Memplug? If not, are there any good file managers that are?

This site is very good for memplug related apps. If it works with memplug, it'll probably be mentioned there.

I know that it works with the smartmedia memplug, but you need the PiVFSMgr Software to use it. i've been using the final version and the beta for about a week, and both have worked fine with it.

T615C in blue at Best Buy?

Does anyone know if Best Buy will carry the blue T615Cs? The webstore doesn't seem to have an entry for the blue version. I have a gift card saved from Christmas waiting to be used for this PDA. :)

I've read from someone who spoke to an order rep at Sony that both the Silver and Blue versions will be in stores. However, the Blue will not be out immediately. And given the demand for it, there will probably be shortages initially.

Beyond this talk, so far is there any palm OS hardware developer thinking about to have turn the squarish screen to rectangular? As I see the writing zone is waste. Can Sony convert this zone to viewing area and make it tobe a virtual writing zone? Then the resolution will be 480x320 or even higher. I am sure Clie user would love it.

I have to admit it does make more sense that its provider related. GPS and CDMA are much different, you can't get a phone thats CDMA as easily as if its GPS. People don't understand how GPS works and need to follow the traditonal way they get the phone, i.e. their provider. I'd say its actually a good move to say its parts, people would say, oh: its the economy, oh palm had the same problem, and cut them some slack.
But in the end we could all just be full of it and not have no clue about what we are talking about.

No Rebate - BUT there's no free SD Card. Sometimes these prices drops happen BEFORE Palm announces.
