I think Handspring is still waiting for both the anticipation in North America to grow more, AND the GSM network to get better coverage.
In Canada, GSM seems to only be available in 2 major cities in my province. In fact, when I get within 2km of the perimiter of my city, my GSM phone stops working.
Guaranteed GSM coverage seems to be only in 1-3 cities in each province. I'm already sick of my GSM phone.
Treo Delay
You have read this article explaining the delay, haven't you?

Canada GSM
Rogers GSM is still small, but it's gonna get a LOT BIGGER. coverage wise that is...
Fido is still pretty good. good for metropolitan areas.

Handspring is correct to focus on areas of the world where there is a definate market. ie. Europe and parts of Asia.
America really needs to get some widespread network standards instead of the stupid patchwork you have now which results in the need for clumsy 'multi-standard' phones.
It's the people who set standards and choose which way to move the technology forwards in the USA who really do need a 'slap in the face'
I'm sure a company like Handspring would not be so incautious as to say such a thing but this is clearly how they feel.
No e-mail on Treo?!

RE: No e-mail on Treo?!
With email pushed to your device you will pay for the data downloaded whether the email is interesting to you or just spam.
With GPRS (always-on)in the UK there is no reason why Multi-mail will not work in exactly the same way on a Treo as it does on the new palm it's just a matter of configuring the software to check your account every few minutes. As I say this may cost you something in data transfer everytime it does that. Not an ideal solution.

Treo battery life
2.5 hours Talktime is OK but 60 hours standby is poor compared to other phones -bearing in mind that phone manufacturers tend to make 'optimistic' claims about this issue.
My current Siemens phone manages a GENUINE 2 hours talk AND 4 days standby on one full charge. Sure it doesn't have the computing power of a PalmOS device but it's much smaller/lighter.
Handspring are marketing this device as a phone with buit-in Palm not the reverse. In this case they will have to compete with other phones in the market. Mass-market users will not want to charge their phones every other day- esp. when travelling.
If the battery life claims are accurate then I would still be tempted but I will wait to hear what user experiences of this are.
This doesn't bode well for the upcoming colour model as such tend to consume more power (when the screen is on - of course).

Perhaps these convergence Palm units should use replacable rechargable batteries like every cell phone on the market. I always keep a large-capacity spare battery charged up and just pop it in when the other battery is weak.
Thanks, Robrecht

RE: Treo battery life
Having said that, it is a pretty cool device. But I think that it really is a Palm with a built-in phone, not the other way around. If you use the phone occasionally, it will be great. But if you want to use it as a full-time phone, better keep a charger close.
