Mergic Releases PPTP VPN Client
Mergic has released Mergic VPN 1.0, a virtual private network client that allows users with Internet access to securely connect to a private network, such as their home or corporate LAN. It is the first VPN client for the Palm platform to support the Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), which is supported by more servers than any other VPN protocol. Mergic VPN is now available for $30.
Mergic VPN has support for 40, 56, and 128-bit Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption (MPPE). It also supports the PAP, CHAP, MS-CHAPv1 and MS-CHAPv2 authentication protocols.
"The optimized encryption and authentication methods used by Mergic VPN's PPTP implementation have relatively low processor overhead. This allowed us to create a Palm OS VPN client that connects quickly and performs very well over all supported connection types," said Rob Seaman, Mergic's Founder.
Mergic VPN runs on handhelds with Palm OS 3.1 or greater and at least 150 KB of available storage.
PPTP server support is available as part of many platforms including most Cisco platforms, several of the Microsoft operating systems (XP Pro, 2000 Pro, 2000 Server, and Windows NT Workstation and Server), Linux, and many other operating system and firewall/VPN servers.

Soooo, did everyone miss the Sharp SL-A300 Linux PDA announcement?
RE: Slow Season
No - the week before last HAD TONS OF PALM NEWS (what with the TechXNY expo going on). Last week was slow - probably because companies had made most of their 'near-term' announcements at the TechXNY expo the week before and because it was a short work week in the U.Ss (4th of July).

I don't think you've been paying close attention. June was a very busy month with the release of OS 5, and the announcement of smartphones from both Samsung and Kyocera. And let's not forget the release of the Treo 90 and Sony T665C.
We covered the 3DAGames 3D game engine for Palm OS 5 in yesterday's quickies.
I will admit the last week has been pretty quiet but that is mostly because there was a major holiday here in the U.S. and both Ryan and I were on vacation. However, things are returning to normal now.
