Palm Digital Media has released a version of its eBook app PalmReader 1.1.16 (both the free and Pro versions) that supports the full screen of Sony NR series. -Eugene

Tech Center Labs has released an emergency charger for the Handspring Treo line that uses four AAA batteries. It's available now for $25. -Jerry Kerl

CompUSA is having a pda blowout sale. The Palm m515 is selling for $350 and the Sony T615C is $270. The Palm m505 is going for $250 after a rebate and the Palm 125 is $150 after a rebate.. -Alex Bosco

Maybe because it's overpriced !?

I always say that Palm's stuff are overpriced, but no one seems to believe me. When you see Sony's stuff is cheaper than yours' then there must be something really wrong with the pricing scheme.

It's because the T615C has been discontinued and Sony is trying to get rid of its remaining inventory. Sony itself is selling them for $300 and so that's the price CompUSA needs to undercut.

The m515 is selling regularly for $400 so CompUSA need only sell it at $350 in order to undercut that price and generate sales..

That model [T665c] is the succesor to the T615. Sony officialy discontinued the T615.

They never officially discontinued the T-615. It is still available on the SonyStyle website.

Seriously though, the T665C was announced a month ago and there's typically been a period of overlap while the earlier model is phased out of the supply channel.

I can't find anything on the PeanutPress site about the PRO version of PalmReader being updated beyond v1.0, nore can I find any way I would update my current pro version if there was. Any help here?

Ok, apparently you didn't read what I wrote. I'm asking about the PRO version, not the FREE version. There is nothing on the PeanutPress site saying that PalmReader PRO was updated. Only the FREE version.

Go to peanutpress.com, click on the My Account link on the top-right, enter your info, then your "library" will come up. Click on the Palm Reader link and you'll see the latest version.

Not too impressed with the updated Pro version. I mostly use it for the 10MB dictionary, but the dictionary is not taking advantage of Hi-Res+. I click on the graffiti collapse button and the bottom third of my screen goes white but is not utilized, I guess because it's drawing the word-entry box and word selection boxes in the same place as ever. Boo.

I think I have purchased my last Palm (after using 4 or 5 different ones over the years, starting with the Palm Professional). My Palm went up on Ebay this week and I just picked up the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 (Linux based handheld) for $330 at Best Buy (less than what I paid for my last Palm).

It has a 206 Mhz processor, 64 MB ram, Compact Flash & SD/MMC slots, built-in slide out Keyboard, D-pad, replaceable Lithium-ion battery, near-Ipaq quality screen, MP3 and Mpeg movie players, Microsoft compatible word processor/spreadsheet/presenatation software, Games, Java, skinnable GUI, great wireless support, full Opera web browser with SSL support, all the standard PIM apps, + tons of free Linux applications.

This is not meant to start a debate over these units, I am simply giving you my experience since leaving the Palm camp and going to another device for the first time. I thought the Sharp unit, since it runs Linux, would be difficult for novice users, but you don't really know Linux is there unless you want to (they don't install the file manager of command line apps by default).

I tried Linux once on my desktop. The fonts s*****, un-tar-ing programs was difficult, getting an internet connection was not intuitive, blah, blah. It would have been fun in 1987, however by the time I tried it (1999?) I was not interested in learning new command line stuff. Easier to go with stuff that works and has bigger industry footprint. Same argument for mac's, symbian, epoc, os/2, etc. Pretty interface, but limited device and 3rd party app support compared to Windows(desktops) and Palm(handhelds). There's always going to be some program you want, but won't come in a linux(mac,symbian, os/2) version.

Now, the potential is there for Palm to make a pretty OS. I remember seeing BeOS at Best Buy and Palm bought BeOS. Perhaps OS6 will sport a prettier interface.

I'd pay $50 for an m130. They really need to work on getting more color smartphones out for us smokers who have wallet in one pocket, keys in another, cigarrettes in another. That leaves only one pocket for a gadget.

Last week's CompUSA circular was advertising the m505 at $220 after rebate. CompUSA has a history of advertising amazing prices but not having the item on sale in stock (and not honoring discounts on rain checks), but a friend of mine got one of the m505s on Sunday. $250 isn't bad, but $220 is a bargain (although the T615 is even better)
