ScummVM Emulator Updated
ScummVM is a program which allows you to play classic Lucasarts adventure games through the ScummVM engine. The new release include sounds support and can run new titles.
ScummVM is an implementation of the SCUMM (Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion) engine used in various Lucas Arts games such as Monkey Island, Indiana Jones titles and Day of the Tentacle.
The official ScummVM website has a list of supported games and known bugs. The new version includes many fixes and game compatibility updates. There are additional details about the Palm OS port at this site.
ScummVM requires roughly 750k of free RAM and addional space for game roms. The emulator is free and released under the GPL, with the source code also freely available. The application runs on high resolution color Palm OS devices.

Yes, let's complain
Seriously, that screenshot looks fantastic. And I was even thinking... FINALLY the Palm has more of such stuff. It's probably the last major platform (Palm, PPC, Linux) to have something like this working well. In fact, there are still many simple emulators it could use. Like one for the TI85 or TI calculators (the HP48 emulator is good too... but TI scientific calculators are more common, and HP likes RPN too much).
Back to the future?

Wondeful!
I wish the Samsung SGH-i500 would be released earlier than the end of the year so I could enjoy this now.
Now, who is up for the job of porting Exult or Sarien?
Or perhaps even Visualboy Advance!

where are the games ?
RE: where are the games ?
For example, I recently bought a CD compilation with Sam'n Max + Day of the Tentacle for a very cheap sum.
I believe Lucasarts has does have an online shop with a few games as well (but do mail them to keep the pressure up on demand... I did about them re-releasing the Monkey Island Madness CD).

Thanks.

go SCUMMVM for PalmOS!
What gives?
The Monkey Island series is legendary, as is the Maniac Mansion series (Day of the Tentacle is still one of my favorites). And let's not even mention Sam & Max!
I don't understand the tone of most of the posts so far. These were great games, and the ability to play them on a PalmOS device is wonderful. Why the apathy?

RE: What gives?
And the idea of porting it to Palm is even better!
Playing DOTT, Monkey Island 2, Indy IV... Those old good games on my Palm!! What a dream ;)
Problem is: none of them is playable under the TT! DOTT crashes as soon as I open the clock door. Indy crashes after the third screen... :( I think the author deserves all our consideration for this marvelous piece of software, but I just wished they would work on the TT :)
RE: What gives?
It would be nice to see it produce sound on the TT. I just LOVED The Secret of Monkey Island's theme song, and the sequence where the pirate ghost skeletons dance, towards the middle of the game. If it could be a bit faster, it wouldn't hurt. I'll definitely keep an eye on this one!

But I can see I'm wrong ;)

RE: What a coincidence!
The Tungsten T has a 786k heap i believe ( i think the T|C is much larger). The Sony OS 5 devices have more (2mb++?). You can't win i guess - people complained about the new Sony devices when they came out because you could only use 11mb of the 16mb of RAM (they needed the extra heap for the web browser) - but now we see a new use / need of this memory.
Off-topic: How about an emulator for Sierra games?
Thanks,
Peter
ScummVM on Palm
It may be interesting for some to know that the emulator has now version 0.5.
It's a stable release on Palm Zire 71 which is pretty much the same like Tungsten T. Just take a look at http://capers.free.fr/ScummVM/ the homepage from the guy who ported the emulator to Palm OS...
I am now able to play Day of the tentacle and Maniac Mansion enhanced, but both without sound (that time with undertitles)
Regards,
Lionel
