webOS Overclocking Tools Released
A group of webOS hackers has publicly released tools and details for overclocking webOS devices. The group has released a set of specially modified webOS 1.4 kernels (GSM and CDMA versions) with clock speeds of 720 MHz and 800 MHz, a significant bump from the factory set 600 MHz. For now, the files are specifically designed for use with the Palm Pre and come with detailed installation instructions.
A video demo of the new overclock patches in action is posted after the break. The video shows a dramatically faster webOS experience on the current Pre hardware with little noticeable side effects. While the group has done some limited testing on the overall effects of the mod, and they claim the initial data "shows good safety", there are still a number of risks involved with the process. Palm itself has issued a statement on the matter, discouraging its use and stating it will "likely result" in a voided warranty.
Interested users willing to brave the risks can find the full instructions and necessary files in this forum post.

Can this patch also work on my Treo 680? 800mhz on that baby should get Blazer a renderin'.
Considering that the statement says that is was a kernel patch, it would be rather unlikely to work on anything that is not webos. In fact, it sounds like there was something in the kernel to artificially limit the clock speed of the cpu.

There's a hack for that.
RE: Cross Platform?
Unless there's a hack to infuse a billion dollars into Palm, they're toast.

Apple's design is STILL selling strong and is basically unchanged in 3 years. That's 18 dog years which x-lates to 126 human years BTW. :-)

i do not have a metal plate in my head. Thought i should mention that Just in case some reading this do not see the humor in your thoughts. Though a metal plate in the head is not funny as some people do have metal a plate in their head and would not want to trivialize such things.
Medical metal could work any more thoughts?

i do not have a foil hat either just my god given brain that i choose to put to use helping to building a Palm Classic. i still believe in Palm or i would not spend the time to enhance Palms brand or stock or assure this innovative enterprise continues its voyage into the unknown as a true pioneer.
What do you think of an all metal Palm Classic what would we call it once it gets to market? Could it have 900 MHz speed? What about the display it would have to be the best on the market. To accommodate future features would it require a portion of the display that will read ones finger print? Thinking of the past present and future Is this something a Palm Classic would have? Would it haver a removable hard drive and card slots? Would a Palm Classic interact with a we-com virtual wallet? Would it be as thin as possible keeping in mind it has to be durable enough to withstand daily use.
Could we bring watch makers on board to help build the Palm Classic case? Would such interaction offer the skills to make the Palm Classic water tight or used under water? Watch makers would work with the engineers to build this offering. Utilizing the skills of watch makers would be good. They have been making water tight technology for centuries and think they would be a welcome addition to a team seeking to build the best Palm, thinking about the past present and future.
Please share your thoughts too.

I don't think that your ramblings are helping anyone. If anything, they are more like white noise that is drowning out anything else in the comments section.
RE: Palm Classic suggestions
"An infinite-bandwidth white noise signal is purely a theoretical construction. By having power at all frequencies, the total power of such a signal is infinite and therefore impossible to generate. In practice, however, a signal can be "white" with a flat spectrum over a defined frequency band".- wiki
So in theory this is "white noise" in reality is is innovative content.

News out today of iPhone 4.0 allowng multitasking. The interface won't be as slick as "cards", but one more item that commonizes another feature of WebOS (and Android and MS)
Not "Pre-verted"- Android Assimilation?

RE: Palm Classic suggestions
Look, Palm is toast. They could build a Palm Classic out of kryptonite, but no one's buying.
No one's buying because people are either expecting a buyout or for Palm to chain the doors shut.
RE: Palm Classic suggestions
Palm is a pioneer with a past, present and future. Perhaps it takes more energy to succeed than it does to fail. Some have quite on Palm and some are not quitters. Many developers have their roots in Palm ... a past with Palm.
The more choices the more work developers have and better for the economy. Like an engineer they can work on many projects with the understanding that no matter who they work with they must give 100% and do what is best for their customer at all times.
Can you see a future where application developers work with more than one company? Why would developers have to leave Palm to work for one when they could work with many in a trusting environment.
Any company can fail that is true. Each failed company is more unemployment. Keeping people employed in what they choose to do takes much effort.
Thanks for your thoughts.

And yes, the upgrade is *awesome*. I enjoy my phone significantly more than I did before.
