Palm Announces First Powered Up Winners

Palm Inc. has announced the first winners of the new Powered Up Awards, which honor developers of the best Palm OS applications. The Best Enterprise Solution and the Best Overall Solution awards went to ActiveECG from Active Corp., a cost-effective, pocket-sized heart monitor that records and analyzes cardiac rhythms. The Best Productivity/Education Solution award went to CopyWrite from Revelation Computing, which helps educators teach young students how to write.

The Best Leisure and Entertainment Solution award was won by Handmark Scrabble from Handmark, Inc.

The Best Student Developer Solution was Ultimate Table Hockey, developed by high school student Bryant Lee.

The panel choose the winning applications on the basis of:

  • Innovation -- solutions that are truly unique
  • Advancement of the platform -- solutions that represent breakthrough technology
  • Value -- solutions that enhance a user's business and/or personal life
  • Ease of use -- solutions that deliver power through simple and elegant software design
  • Expansion -- software or hardware that makes excellent use of expansion technology found in Palm Powered devices
The winners will receive a Palm handheld, about $2,500 worth of advertising for their application, and other prizes. Palm will present the Best Overall award at the PalmSource Conference in February.

The Powered Up Awards are presented each quarter. Palm is now accepting nominations for the next round.
